Having grown up in a small town in Canada, Julie Madison began
her career as the head of her own travel company.
Then, in 2001, she moved to the UK and decided that she wanted to
be a TV presenter. "After operating my own travel company for
a few years I realised I wanted a new challenge," she
explains. "My first job was for York TV and my first
assignment was to interview the Archbishop of York. It was only a
small station but it was a fantastic experience."
Julie feels that she has been helped along her way by
Startintv.com, an internet service for aspiring broadcasters. She
says: "I was very pleasantly surprised - I've had lots of
companies contacting me to see my showreel."
She recently did some presenting for BBC Training and will soon
start a roadshow for a major insurance company, but is still
looking forward to working more extensively.
She concludes: "I'm open to and available for any
presenting opportunities, the more you do the more exciting it
gets. Also, your former life always comes into play in presenting.
I think it's been a huge advantage for me to have had a career
before this."
